Amidst a turbulent 2020, MA was born to take a break, to provide a place of calmness out of which beauty can be created. Of Japanese origin, even the word “MA” in itself means that: the search for a conscious and not empty space that adds value and balance to the parts that make it up.
In MA, we build that space with our hands: we create handmade jewelry and scarves, with designs thought to the millimeter and betting on a sustainable and local production. In a world in which careful work, time and hand-made items are valued less and less, we proudly go against the grain.
Our mission
In MA we vindicate the encounters between modernity and a return to our roots. Applying the artisan production processes to jewelry and scarves, we look to the past and rescue the trades and knowledges that have always accompanied us. But we also face the future: We use 100% natural materials of the highest quality, and a production on demand to promote sustainable creations. Youth, design and craftsmanship: our signs of identity, and those that allow MA to succeed in making luxury available to everyone.
Our vision
In MA we are non-conformists by principle. We do not want to be a conventional brand but we do not reject the classics either: we aim to trace a path of constant discovery and challenge ourselves to offer the best every day. For us, to enjoy the day-to-day and to make it extraordinary is where the true luxury lies.
MA is born out of Marta Aristondo, art director and artisan jeweler. After working as a creative for different advertising agencies in Madrid, in January 2020 she decided to take a turn and bet on a manual craftsmanship that satisfied her creative ambitions: jewelry. Defending it as a universal language, it builds bridges of art and literature that help people unlock narratives and embark on new adventures. Marta began her training in this discipline in 2016. With the arrival of the pandemic she moved to Gijón, Asturias, where she continues with her training today. There she has established her own workshop, where she creates and models each piece. In December 2020 she presented MA, her personal brand, a space of modern family relics that celebrate the beauty of human imperfection and vulnerability.
We are sustainable
In MA we vindicate craftmanship as a meeting point between luxury and sustainability. Our artisan elaboration is the greatest demonstration that caring for our environment is in our DNA. We do not claim to be saying anything new: we unite tradition and innovation using recycled, high quality and 100% natural materials to manufacture careful and timeless parts. Our plastic-free packaging, production without stock, and our circular processes demonstrate that, in MA, craftmanship is both an ethical, as well as an aesthetical commitment. We assume our responsibility to encourage new forms of consumption that appreciate local commerce, respect our environment and create sustainable alternatives. If luxury is the excellence that something has for the quality of the materials and processes of its manufacture, in MA we are determined to show that, in order to look towards a future that unites exclusivity and sustainability, we have to go back to craftsmanship.
